SXSWedu Highlights This Week

This week SXSWedu announced a number of exciting elements for the 2013 SXSWedu Conference & Festival, March 4-7 in Austin, Texas. Here's a recap of this weeks news.

1. Bill Gates Announced as a 2013 Keynote

The first of the 2013 keynote speakers have been revealed. Bill Gates will deliver the closing keynote address Thursday, March 7 at SXSWedu.

2. LAUNCHedu Finalists Revealed

Photo by Carols AustinThe 24 education startup companies, selected as finalists in both K-12 and Higher Education, have been announced. These young visionaries will compete for top honor in the LAUNCHedu competition before a judging panel of educaiton practitioners and venture capitalists during SXSWedu.

3. Meria Carstarphen and Alan Gershenfeld Join Distinguished Speaker Lineup

Austin ISD Superintendent Meria Carstarphen and gaming professor and entrepreneur Alan Gershenfeld have joined the exciting lineup of Distinguished Speakers confirmed to present a special spotlight presentation March 4-7, 2013.

4. Additional Concurrent Sessions Announced

A wave of Concurrent Sessions have been added to the robust list of those accepted to present March 4-7 at SXSWedu. A special thanks to the SXSWedu Community and the SXSWedu Advisory Board for all the help in the submission and selection process.

5. New Downtown Hotels Available for SXSWedu

A number of new hotel options have just been added this week. The Four Seasons, La Quinta Capitol, Embassy Suites Downtown, and the Hyatt Regency are all a short walk from the Austin Convention Center and range from budget to luxury.
