Clever took home honors in the K-12 category for their technology that helps schools sync learning software with student information systems and Speaking Pal won in the higher education category for its English-language learning application that turns your mobile phone into a personal tutor.

The winners were named at a celebration party at the Stage on Sixth on the evening of March 5, hosted by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and MyEdu.

Twenty four startup education companies pitched their products and services to a hard hitting judging panel of educators, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in the LAUNCHedu competition today at the Hilton, Salon C.

Located in room 404 of the Hilton Austin Downtown, this space will showcase the various LAUNCHedu finalists and their startup services and products.

Startups play a tremendous role in the future of the education landscape and SXSWedu is excited to shine the spotlight on today's new and emerging companies.

The exciting LAUNCHedu competition at SXSWedu provides a forum for entrepreneurs, investors and cutting edge startups to showcase their talents and share the ideas shaping the future of teaching and learning. LAUNCHedu celebrates the convergence of today's dynamic educators and entrepreneurs transforming traditional classrooms and revolutionizing schooling.

LAUNCHedu debuted at SXSWedu 2012, attracting significant energy and support as a catalyst for discovering whatʼs next and new in the evolving education landscape. In response to a dramatic increase in applicants, and the growth of the SXSWedu Conference & Festival at large, LAUNCHedu has expanded to feature 24 finalists in the competitionʼs second year.

SXSWedu is pleased to introduce the Emcees who will lend their talents and expertise of the rapidly expanding education marketplace to the 2013 LAUNCHedu competition. EdSurge co-founder Betsy Corcoran, Trinity Education Group partner and CIO Clyde Boyer , GSV founder and managing partner Deborah Quazzo, and Trinity Education Group founder and CEO Hugh Norwood, will take the stage at SXSWedu, March 4-7, 2013 in Austin, Texas.
