Happy Book Lovers Day, Here’s a Few Titles to Consider for Your Shelf
Over the years, we've seen so many great authors grace the stage at SXSW EDU. In honor of National Book Lovers Day, we pulled together a list of five titles, written by SXSW EDU 2017 speakers, to consider adding to your bookshelf.
1. For White Folks Who Teach in the Hood... and the Rest of Y'all Too: Reality Pedagogy and Urban Education by Christopher Emdin
SXSW EDU's 2017 opening keynote speaker, Christopher Emdin, drew heavily upon the topics written about in his book throughout his talk. Watch the video of Emdin for a deeper dive into his work.
2. Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead by Brené Brown
One of the most popular sessions from SXSW EDU 2017, Brené Brown's talk, Daring Classrooms, explored the topic of vulnerability as it relates to teaching and the classroom.
3. Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers by Timothy Ferriss
In his SXSW EDU keynote, Tim Ferriss shared his secrets of accelerated learning and mastery. Accelerated learning is at the core of many of Ferriss' projects and books.
4. Paying the Price: College Costs, Financial Aid, and the Betrayal of the American Dream by Sara Goldrick-Rab
Higher Education Policy & Sociology Professor from Temple University, Sara Goldrick-Rab, took to the SXSW EDU 2017 keynote stage to address where we are as a nation when it comes to the cost of college. Her book dives deep into this topic, illuminating her extensive research and insight.
5. The Rise: Creativity, the Gift of Failure, and the Search for Mastery by Sarah Lewis
Bestselling author, curator and Assistant Professor at Harvard University, Sarah Elizabeth Lewis, explored the role of creativity for social justice in her talk at SXSW EDU. Her book takes this topic further, exploring iconic artists and histories.
