Programming Highlights: Employability
Preparing students for future employment is at the heart of much of the work being done by educators, administrators, policy makers and business leaders. With that said, it's no surprise that employability is a notable topic within the education community. Learn more about the programming at SXSW EDU that explores the development of knowledge, skills, attributes and achievements designed to support students with the necessary tools for success when they enter the workforce.
Anant Agarwal, CEO of edX, and Mark Cousino, Boeing Director of Learning Design and Technology, will explore today's broken corporate training model in the featured session, Reinventing Corporate Education. Their session will dive deep into innovative ideas to solve challenges, explore the role of universities to help deliver better quality, and how companies can invest in talent to dive better results.
The SXSW EDU program explores the topic of employability with session and thought leaders committed to advancing students from schooling to career. Here are a few highlights:
- In the Policy Forum Tobie Baker-Wright (Jobs for the Future), Todd Pittinsky (Harvard Graduate School of Education), Mark Martin (Build Urban Prosperity) and Jeremiah Newell (Mobile Area Education Foundation) will explores practical ideas that are being implemented that have broad support across political ideology and affiliation. Their session, Educating Across the Aisle will examine the many lines of thought and belief that unite people and groups towards a common goal, putting children, families and communities first.
- How To Prepare Kids For Jobs That Don’t Exist Yet is a panel discussion with Liz Wamai (Facebook), Jake Victoria (Da Vinci Schools) and Evin Shutt (72andSunny) that takes a look at the many jobs that didn't exist 10 years ago and how to prepare kids for jobs that don't exist yet.
- Leaders from the STEM Learning Ecosystems Initiative will discuss how partners from diverse backgrounds and practices are working together to establish rigorous, engaging education pathways to equip students for careers (and life) in the Industry Talk, Not "Random Acts of STEM": Planned Career Success.
In addition to the sessions highlighted above, we anticipate employability being a hot topic in this year's Innovation Hub. The Innovation Hub, March 6-7, is a dynamic space designed to connect education professionals across industries. The hub will feature leading organizations showcasing the latest products, services and programs available and on the horizon.
