Programming Highlights: Leadership
With programming in the Policy Forum, over 60 mentors, and hundreds of sessions scheduled at SXSW EDU -- leadership will be an extensive topic of discussion as well as an opportunity for professional growth at the event. Additionally, the leadership track will offer summits, workshops, and more, including a keynote and two featured sessions. Discover programming at SXSW EDU that aims to empower through thought-provoking and inspiring conversations around leadership in education.
In the keynote WE over Me: From College to Movement, President of Paul Quinn College, Michael J. Sorrell will discuss how focusing on the needs of communities the school serves led to creating a new version of higher ed.
The SXSW EDU program facilitates discussions about leadership dedicated to building up stakeholders within the education community. Further leadership programming highlights below:
- Featured speaker Juan Pablo Romero Fuentes, founder of Los Patojos, will share how he’s shaping the future of Guatemala’s children by applying a holistic lens, in Changing Guatemala One Dream at a Time.
- Using blended learning and improvement science as a roadmap for change, will be a core topic of discussion in the hands-on workshop Blending Leadership: Strategies for Leading Change. Speakers, Reshan Richards (Teachers College Columbia University), and Beth Holland (Johns Hopkins School of Education) will provide participants an opportunity to develop concrete action plans that they can take back to their schools and districts.
- The session Cultivating Millennials to Be Authentic Leaders explores the journey college students take when riding a bike from Austin, TX to Anchorage, AK. Panel speakers, Chris Condit (Abbott), Kevin Helgren (The University of Texas at Austin), Megan Leuders (Zenoss), and Megan Sinclair (Sense Corp) will recall completing the expedition and going on to become a corporate leader and student body president.
